Having spent some time in Bromley South I was pretty impressed, read all about it in my below area guide.
About Bromley South
Nestled amidst the bustling suburbs of South London, Bromley South stands as a charming option.
It’s a place where the buzz of city life melts into home county type space.
Just a hop, skip, and a jump from London’s vibrant core, this captivating neighbourhood offers a unique blend of modern conveniences and a bit more peace and quiet.
It’s great for those seeking a lifestyle that seamlessly balances urban energy with suburban tranquility.
Bromley South Area Guide – Transport Links
By rail Bromley South is realively well served. The first thing to note is that it doesn’t have its own tube station.
This is to be expected for somewhere around 10 miles from Central London but this might be a deal-breaker for some.
Instead it has Bromley South (Zone 5) mainline station which still provides an excellent array of services. The most impressive for me was access to a fast train to London Victoria.
Arriving every 15 minutes or so there is a direct, no stop service to the London mega station, taking just 16 minutes.
Heading in the other direction there are plenty of services taking you deep into Kent heartland.
By road you have good access to the A21 which leads out of London, but be warned this can get extremely busy.
There are also a wide range of bus services which pass through Bromley South’s impressive Town Centre.
Is Bromley South Safe?
Crime is a factor in Bromley South with 255 Crimes Per 1,000 residents. This number is via the Metropolitan Police figures and comparing them against 2021 Census data.
This compares poorly to the the London average of 95 crimes per 1,000 residents.
As with places such as East Croydon and Stratford there is some explaining which needs to take place however.
Bromley South has a large commercial area which has a lot of visitors and not many residents.
This disproportionate ratio leads to high crime rates per residents.
Speaking practically if you took just a shopping centre the crimes per 1,000 residents would be through the roof.
So it is a bit like that on a lesser scale for Bromley South. In fact if you removed shoplifting from their figures then the average would drop down a lot closer to the London average.

Bromley South Area Guide – House Prices
Put frankly I was quite shocked when browsing house prices in Bromley South.
The average price last year was just under £500,000 but that in itself isn’t that high. What is noteworthy however is that the majority of properties sold were flats, bringing that average down.
If you want a detached house I’m Bromley South it will cost you just shy of £1m on average.
Semi Detached properties average around the £800,000 mark.
Is Bromley South a nice place to live

The fast train service into Central London is very appealing mixed with the leafy nature of the area.
