About Wandsworth

Wandsworth is located in southwest London, on the south bank of the River Thames.

It is bordered by the boroughs of Lambeth to the north, Southwark to the east, and Richmond upon Thames to the west.

Wandsworth is extremely well-served by public transport, with several train stations and bus routes.

Clapham Junction station is the nearest main line station, and it is also served by the District line and Northern line.

Wandsworth Town station is on the South Western Railway line, and Wandsworth Common station is on the London Overground line.

Wandsworth falls in Zone 2 of the London transport network.

Parks and open spaces

Even with it being a central London location, Wandsworth is well served by various parks and open spaces.

The largest and most impressive park in the area is the beautiful Wandsworth Common.

With 175 acres of green space, it is a sizable veune. It has a lake, tennis courts, a playground, and a cafe.

A short walk from Wandsworth, another option is Battersea Park.

This 80-acre park is located just across the river from Wandsworth. It has a boating lake, a children’s zoo, and a variety of gardens.

Back to central Wandsworth, King George’s Park is another option.

This 23-acre park has a lake, a playground, and a sports ground.

Things to do in Wandsworth

Wandsworth has plenty to do for all ages.

Naturally exploring some of the parks and open spaces above are options but here are some more suggestions.

Walk The Thames Path

One of the features of Wandsworth is it’s close proximity to the River Thames.

With that being the case a lovely day out can be a walk along its banks.

A 180 mile footpath should be enough for anyone but the Wandsworth stretch covers some lovely sights.

The particularly scenic section includes views of Battersea Park and the Battersea Power Station.

Go Shopping In Northcote Road

Northcote Road is known for its independent shops and cafes.

It’s a great place to find unique and interesting items. Whether you are looking for a new outfit, a piece of homeware, or a gift for someone special, you are sure to find something here.

Visit The Wandsworth Museum

The Wandsworth Museum tells the story of Wandsworth’s history and heritage.

It includes artefacts and artworks that show contemporary and traditional skills of local people.

The museum’s collection includes over 50,000 objects, including paintings, photographs, furniture, and archaeological finds.

The collection tells the story of the area from its earliest days to the present.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Mondays and bank holidays.

Admission is free.

Food And Drink In Wandsworth

A real pulling point of the area, there is a wide range of places to eat and drink in Wandsworth.

Here are some of our favourites;

Hotaru

Hotaru is a Japanese restaurant located on Wandsworth High Street. It has been serving authentic Japanese cuisine for over 10 years and has a loyal following of customers. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Food is reasonably priced and there is an expansive menu.

Viet Town

Sticking with the Far Eastern theme, Viet Town is a wonderful option situated on Old York Road.

The menu at Viet Town features a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes, including pho, banh mi, spring rolls, and stir-fries.

There are also a number of vegetarian and vegan options available. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the portions are generous.

The Chutney

The Chutney is an Indian restaurant located on Alma Road in Wandsworth.

It has been serving Indian cuisine for over 20 years and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

The restaurant is small and cozy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

If you are looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal, then The Chutney is a great option.

The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

Wandsworth Area Guide – Crime

The overall crime rate in Wandsworth in 2022 was 72 crimes per 1,000 people.

This is lower than the London average of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.

Wandsworth has a lower crime rate than most of the surrounding areas with the exception of Richmond Upon Thames.

As a positive there are signs that crime is reducing further in Wandsworth with violent crime going down 7% between 2022 and 2022.

Robberies/muggings also decreased during this period by 6%.

However, it is important to note that crime can happen anywhere, so it is always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to protect yourself and your property.

Wandsworth Area Guide – Property Prices

Being a desirable area, Wandsworth has price tags on its properties to match.

The average price of a property in Wandsworth in July 2023 was a whopping £875,493.

Interestingly however that is 4% down on the previous year. It is still noticeably higher than the average price across London (£716,000).

Despite a recent drop the property market in Wandsworth is still relatively strong.

This is due to a number of factors, including the area’s good transport links, its proximity to central London, and its abundance of green space.
